Named after Princess Victoria shortly before she became Queen, Ryde’s royal victoria Arcade, built between 1835 and 1836 was restored back to its former glory in 2011. The Royal Victoria Arcade is, quite simply, one of THE isle of wight’s hidden gems just waiting to be discovered!

The Royal Victoria Arcade has a unique feature built into the basement - a 17 by 11 foot ice well. This was used to store ice for the arcade and was brought in from North America and Norway!

DID You know?
Royal Victoria Arcade was founded by William Houghton Banks in 1835, an apothecary in Ryde, who also built Vernon Square. He had borrowed heavily for the enterprise, and, facing bankruptcy, left Ryde for Belgium months after the opening ceremony.
